An anniversary  get-together to celebrate 40 years since Jimís song hit number 1.

2006 will I hope be a good year or all fans of Jim Reeves. I art determined to make it so!  Sadly 2004 came and went with hardly a whimper that the year marked the 40th anniversary of Jim's death. I vowed  that at the very first opportunity with the next big  anniversary in Jim's life, I would try to put the record straight by reminding the public at large of his rightful place in both the country and worldwide popular music fields.

That day is almost here! September 2006 marks the 40th anniversary  of his posthumous U.K. no. 1 chart hit "Distant Drums" which knocked the Beatles' "Yellow Submarine" off the no.1 spot. The year 2006 also marks the 40th  anniversary of the founding of The Official Jim Reeves Fan Club of Great Britain which run until 1977, I have therefore decided to organize a reunion/get-together for all those involved in any way with the music of Jim Reeves over those past years. Fans old and new are welcome. Hopefully this will include former members: of thee old U.K. club plus members of the current club based in Holland.

The event wilt be held on Saturday 23rd September 2006 at St. Mark's church, Leeds Road, Harrogate. North Yorkshire from 2pm until 6.30pm. Entry fee is £5 per person which covers afternoon tea plus a parting gift. There is ample car parking. Harrogate is a conference town with abundant accommodation anti connects via the rail network to Leeds & York for inter-city travel. Further information may be had on request

The afternoon wilt he a hectic mix of conversation, information and music. The closing session wilt be taken up with a concert in the main body of the church. So far Paul Wheater has agreed to attend and there wilt he be first performance of " An Anniversary Tribute Hymn" which I have been working on since 2004. I am sure the event wilt be a super occasion in a superb setting, unlike any other Reeves meeting or convention I know of.

All I need is your support. This is my swan song in the promotion of Jim's music. His name, reputation and continuing musical memory demand that we all stand up and be counted in order to give this anniversary the support it deserves.

lf you are able to make it to our, please print out the form below and mail it to me with your remittance.  We need to have some idea of numbers attending though late deciders will not be turned away at the door. If you can't attend. then you could help by letting your local ( and national ones too!) radio stations know, so that they too may celebrate the 40 years of "Distant Drums" with us.

Thank you for all you have done for the music and memory of Jim Reeves over the past 40 years. Long may it continue! I look forward to seeing you in September.

Yours sincerely,

David Bussey
